Celebrated geographer, traveller and photographer, Val Vannet returns to the Club once again to give an illustrated talk on Sao Miguel, an Azorean Treasure Island, which she visited recently as a field study tutor. Be prepared to be knocked out by Val’s breathtaking photography and narrative about this little known part of the world.

Wednesday 4th June @ 10:00Ernest Shackleton and the Recovery of the Cross
Find out more about the Hope Cross, currently on display at Discovery Point, from Kim Turford-Mowat, Education and Communities Coordinator at the Dundee Heritage Trust. The Cross is a poignant symbol to Sir Ernest Shackleton, donated by fellow crew members, as a memorial after he perished in 1922.

Ewen Pate, retired Courier Farming Editor and distinguished farmer, will reveal the pioneering venture by a syndicate of Dundee Jute Barons to purchase and develop the highly profitable 130,000 acre Matador Cattle Farm in Texas from 1879 – 1951 and which still prospers to this day.
